Lifestyle diseseases

Psoriasis is a condition wherein the affected person has patches of abnormal skin that appear red and are scaly and itchy. This condition may occur in patches on different parts of the body or on the entire body especially on the forearms, the back, shin area, the scalp and the area around the belly button. Red patches that have white scales on them is a typical occurrence of a type of psoriasis called the Plaque Psoriasis. Some patients suffer from Guttate Psoriasis and a characteristic of this condition is the presence of drop shaped lesions. Some advanced conditions have puss accumulation which is non-infectious and is called the Pustular Psoriasis and the one wherein there are red patches in the folds of the skin is called Inverse Psoriasis. The condition is due to rapid production of skin cells caused by abnormal lymphocytes in the blood. Common symptoms of all these types of the condition are red patches or rashes, itching, pits in the nails or change of the colour of the nails.

In Ayurveda, this condition is called as Ek-Kushta Rog. This is a chronic condition and is caused by an imbalance in the Pitta and Kapha doshas. These doshas are related to the skin and an imbalance in them causes accumulation of toxins in the blood, further affecting the muscles and the lymphatic system. Our experts have studies this ailments for the past 22 years of practise and have successfully treated patients through our programmes that include a thorough analysis of the condition. At Green Gram Wellness Village, we recommend a combination of Ayurvedic therapies with dietary changes that bring about blood purification and internal healing of the condition. Please read on to understand the same.

  1. Ayurvedic Therapies – At Green Gram Wellness Village. We choose natural ingredients that have blood purifying properties. Therapies that include skin and body nourishment by oil massage, body scrubs etc. are also prescribed along with medicines. Some of the therapies are explained below.

    1. Panchakarma Therapy - At Green Gram Wellness Village, we prepare a special mixture of oils and herbs for Panchakarma. We apply the herbal oils on the entire body of the patients before beginning the therapy. We call this process as “Snehana”. We carry out the process of “Swedana” after Snehana. Swedana is a process that liquefies the doshas in the body that later induces bowel movement that allows detoxification as the toxins are eliminated either through therapeutic vomiting or in the form of faeces through the rectum.

    2. Pizhichil – For this therapy, we pour medicated oils continuously on the patient’s body for a few minutes. The mixture of medicated oils is prepared at Green Gram Wellness Village by our knowledgeable and experienced practitioners to reduce the effects of the ailment. This therapy tones, relaxes, nourishes and improves the immunity of the body by enabling detoxification.

    3. Abhayangam – For abhyangam, we prepare a mixture of herbal oils that has proven useful to nourish the skin and the body and relieves stress. Our experienced practitioners massage the patients with this herbal oil mixture all over the body. This therapy balances the vata dosha, increases blood circulation, reduces wrinkles, helps maintain a serene glowing skin and relaxes the stressed muscles in the body.

    4. Takradhara – For Takradhara, we prepare a solution of buttermilk and medicated herbs and pour the mixture on the entire body of the patient. This liquid mixture can be used to carry out the process of Shirodhara as well. Takradhara helps nourish the skin and the medicated herbs help repair the skin cells and reduce inflammation and itching.

  2. Diet – At Green Gram Wellness Village, we prepare menus that are easily digestible and are balanced with ingredients to maintain appropriate levels of Pitta and Kapha doshas. Foods that are low on sugar, salt and are highly acidic are completely excluded from the menu and ingredients that possess blood purifying and anti-septic properties like turmeric, sesame, bitter guard etc. are extensively used.

  3. Exercise routine – Physical activities are very important to maintain a good immune system. Activities like walking, jogging, cycling, yoga asanas provide the necessary strength and activities like Pranayama and Meditation provide the much needed rest after strength building activities.
