Kerala, Gods Own Country, is a mesmerising state that lies on the Malabar Coast in South India. It was initially known as Keralam and was formed in late 1956 by combining the Malayalam speaking regions as stated by the States Reorganisation Act. With the state of Karnataka in the north and north-east, Tamil Nadu to the east and south and the Lakshadweep Sea to the west, Kerala spreads over 38,000 km2. The state consists of fourteen districts and ranks thirteenth in terms of population in India. The capital city of Kerala is Thiruvananthapuram and state language is Malayalam as it is it is widely spoken in the state.

Kerala is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India and is considered as one of the ten paradises on the planet. The state has gained important spots with special mentions in the National Geographic’s Traveller magazine and Travel and Leisure websites as one of the top 100 famous destinations of the 21st century. In 2012, Kerala topped the list of famous travel destinations in India putting the wondrous monument of Taj Mahal in the second position. We have put together some important locations you can explore and soak in the rich culture of Kerala.

  1. Kochi – about 41 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village, the city, also known as Cochin, is an important port city by the Arabian Ocean. You will find a beautiful blend of all religions in India as you explore sites like the various places of worship like the Ernakulam Shiva temple, Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, the Cochin Marine drive, the Kochi Fort, Mattancherry Palace, the Museum of Kerala history, Kerala Kathakali Centre, Bastion Bungalow, Thaneerchal Park etc.

  2. Alleppey – Alleppey is also known as Alappuzha and it is located at a distance of about 87 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village. Alleppey is well known for picturesque locations with still lagoons, lakesides, palm fringed canals and beautiful sea shores.

  3. Thiruvananthapuram – Thiruvananthapuram is the largest and the capital city of Kerala. It is about 233 kilometres from the Green Gram Wellness Village. It was referred as an evergreen city of India by Mahatma Gandhi and is today categorised as a Tier – II city in India. The city was famously known for its trade of spice, ivory and sandalwood and now if a world famous software hub. Some of the famous tourist sites that one can visit are the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Attukul Temple, Palayam Juma Mosque, Kowdiar Palace, Napier Museum, Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, Vellayani Lake, Veli lake and Tourist Village, Hawa beach, Shankhumugham Beach, Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Palace, Kanakakkunnu Palace, the Kerala Science and Technology Museum, Shree Chitra Art Gallery, Reptile House, Indian Elephant Enclosure etc.

  4. Munnar – Munnar is a hill station located in the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats in Idukki district, Kerala and is located about 120 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village. Munnar is famous for its scenic beauty. Tourists can explore the Eravikulam National Park, the Devikulam forests, trek the Anamundi mountains or the Fun Forest, visit the Mattupetty Dam, the Attukal waterfalls, the Munnar Tea Museum, Hydel Park etc.

  5. Thekkady – Thekkady is famous for the Periyar National Park which is about 170 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village.

  6. Kozhikode – Kozhikode, also known as Calicut is located about 170 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village on the Malabar Coast. It is known as the city of spices and the city of sculptures because of the installation of various beautiful architectural sculptures in various parts of the city. Tourists can visit the Mananchira lake, Kozhikode beach, Beypore beach, River Kallayi, Regional Science centre and Planetarium, Mishkal Mosque, Sarovaram Bio Park, Krishna Menon Musem etc.

  7. Wayanad – Wayanad district was formed by carving out areas from Kozhikode and Kannur districts and is located about 234 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village.

  8. Kanoor – Kanoor is about 255 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village. Kanoor is famous for Keladi fort which stands gracefully in the middle of a dense forest.

  9. Kasaragod – Kasaragod is 350 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village. It is famous for its rich culture and historic importance. The famous Bekal Fort is located in the town of Kasaragod.

  10. Kumarakom – Kumarakom is 82 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village and is famous for backwater tourism.

  11. Quilon – Quilon, known also as Kollam, is about 172 kilometres from Green Gram Wellness Village. Kollam is an important industrial, trading and commercial centre. It is a headquarter of the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation. Guests can visit the Ashtamudi Lake, Adventure Park, Asramam Picnic Village, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Police Museum, Portuguese Cemetery, Kollam Beach, Tangasseri Fort, beach and lighthouse etc.
