Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety and Stress is a condition that makes an individual have unpleasant feelings over certain events. These feelings usually revolve around uneasiness and worry and result in an overreaction from the individual followed by restlessness, fatigue, muscular tension and an unfocussed mind. Stress and anxiety may show symptoms like decrease in appetite, increased eating, withdrawal from situations, frequent nightmares, palpitation etc. Once identified, stress and anxiety should be treated immediately as they constantly interfere in everyday life and drain the individuals off of their energies and peace of mind.

Ayurveda functions on the principle of balancing qualities. We call these qualities as gunas. Ayurveda has indentified a total of twenty gunas, ten of which are nourishing and building and the remaining ten are lightening and reducing. The nourishing ones are also called catabolic gunas while the lightening ones are called anabolic gunas. At Green Gram Wellness Village, our treatment solutions involve understanding the qualities that are activated as a response to stress or anxiety within the patients and balancing them with the use of opposing forces. Stress and anxiety have anabolic gunas, meaning they are reducing and lightening. Hence we provide nourishing gunas to balance the qualities caused by stress and anxiety through Ayurvedic medicines and therapies, through amendments in daily activities and diet. At Green Gram Wellness Village, we consider slowing down as the first step of treating stress and anxiety because slowing down calms the nerves and relax the mind and the body. Furthermore, our ayurvedic therapies, yoga asanas and menu for wholesome diet will help you tremendously through your soul satisfying journey with us. We have explained these topics below for you to understand their benefits.

  1. Ayurvedic Therapies – We have explained a few therapies below in brief

    • Abhyanagam – For abhyangam, we prepare a mixture of herbal oils that has proven useful to nourish the skin and the body and relieves stress. Our experienced practitioners massage the patients with this herbal oil mixture all over the body. This therapy balances the vata dosha, increases blood circulation, reduces wrinkles, helps maintain a serene glowing skin and relaxes the stressed muscles in the body.
    • Shirodhara – In shirodhara, we maintain a constant stream of a medicated liquid on the forehead. We make arrangements for the patients to lie down conformably on a wooden bed and place their head under a vessel designed to maintain a continuous stream of the medicated liquid. The medicated liquid is our custom made mixture that is made of handpicked herbs, oils and buttermilk or milk. This therapy improves blood circulation around the eyes and the forehead, relieves stress, activates the crown chakra and nourishes the scalp. We give the patient this treatment for at least 30 minute every sitting and recommend more sittings to cure stress and anxiety completely.
    • Elakizhi – For this therapy, we massage the patient with medicated leaves. At Green Gram Wellness Village, we choose herbs and prepare medicated powders for this therapy and bundle them up in soft muslin cloths. A special mixture of oils made by us is heated to dip the herbal bundles in before massaging the patients. The warm massages cause perspiration and promote detoxification of the skin. The massage tones and relaxes the skin and enhances immunity.
  2. Diet – At Green Gram Wellness Village, we chart diet plans suitable to balance your doshas and the gunas identified. You’ll find wholesome and nutritious ingredients used in your menu like fresh vegetables, fruits, sprouts, grains, juices etc. Foods like coconut, bananas, appropriately cooked carbohydrates, yoghurt, milk, buttermilk, herbal tea, and spices like garlic, cardamom etc are used extensively while cooking the menu.

    • Yoga Asanas – For ages yoga asanas have proven beneficial to human beings. The yoga poses help focus our energies and provide necessary strengthening of muscles and bones. Some of the yoga asanas like the Virabhadrasana (the warrior pose), Viparita Virabhadrasana (the reverse warrior pose), Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (the bridge pose), and Savasana (the corpse pose) have proven to be highly beneficial in overcoming anxiety and stress.
