Diabetes

Diabetes (Diabetes Mellitus) is a metabolic disease in which the blood sugar levels shoot high for a prolonged period. It is called Madhumeha or Prameha in Ayurveda and its prolonged existence leads to severe long term complications. The rise in the blood sugar levels could either be due to failure of the pancreas to produce enough insulin or because the cells in the body fail to respond properly to the insulin produced. There are three types of diabetes – Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational diabetes. Type 1 occurs when the pancreas do not produce enough insulin. Hence it is usually referred as ‘Insulin Dependent Diabetes’. Type 2 is when the cells in the body do not react to the insulin appropriately. This means it is ‘Insulin resistant’. Gestational diabetes occurs in pregnant women with a history of diabetes. Diabetes mostly leads to weakening eye sight, foot ulcers, stroke, heart conditions, kidney failures etc hence it is imperative that it is treated in time to avoid tragic consequences.

Madhumeha or Diabetes is majorly caused due to an imbalance in the Kapha dosha in the body. Hence, a diet that includes high levels of sugar, fats, rice and potatoes, a stressful lifestyle, lack of exercise etc would be the causes for Madhumeha. Patients suffering from Madhumeha confirm symptoms like frequent urination, frequent thirst, blurred eyesight, body weight issues, extreme fatigue, skin issues etc. We, at Green Gram Wellness Village carefully chart a diet and exercise plan suitable to your condition. Our programmes involve alterations in the diet spaced appropriately throughout the day; Yoga Asanas that help reduce stress, maintain appropriate body weight and manage the blood sugar levels and Ayurvedic medication to reduce the effect of diabetes in the patients.

At Green Gram Wellness Village, we recommend a diet complete with vegetables, spices and fruits that help reduce the blood sugar levels. So, you’ll find natural ingredients like bitter gourd, neem, turmeric, Eugenia jambolana (jamun), barley, green gram, chickpeas, fenugreek, wheat, tulsi, pepper, garlic etc. used extensively in the meals. Juices extracted from herbs and vegetables are also included in the diet plans. The ayurvedic drugs prescribed include Arogyavardhini, Shilajit Vati, Chandrabrabha etc. We’ll help you through the intake of the prescribed Ayurvedic medicines precisely. Yoga Asanas appropriate to activate or regulate the pancreas are suggested and practiced on a daily basis. Asanas like Gomukhasana, Paschimottanasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana etc are taught to the patients.

Other treatment solutions like traditional oil massages are also charted in the programmes. We have elaborated a few below for your understanding.

This therapy improves blood circulation around the eyes and the forehead, relieves stress, activates the crown chakra and nourishes the scalp. We give the patient this treatment for at least 30 minute every sitting. Thakradhara can be carried out alone or along with Panchakarma. It reduces stress, improves vision, reduces skin irritation and improves the quality of sleep of the patients.
